The C&S Bank (and later Wachovia Bank) was brought down on the morning of September 30, 2006. According to Wikipedia, it was just after WWII that European demolition experts looked for ways to bring down large structures without harming nearby property. This led to a maturing of the demolition industry in the latter half of the 20th century.

Implosions also started to bring in crowds of people who wanted to see these buildings brought down. That's the case with this implosion in Atlanta. The images in this article - see above sequence - were provided by Nathan Johansen. His full set of photos from the implosion can be found here.
