No one actually keeps track of how many chickens are in Atlanta. But one chicken owner says there could be thousands in the city. During its egg laying years a chicken will lay about 260 eggs a year, about 5 a week. So most local chicken owners will buy 15 baby chicks and forgo the purchase of a rooster. Go here for the basics of raising your own chickens.
