PBA30, Atlanta’s PBS station presents Atlanta’s Best BBQ: Kissed by Fire. This locally-produced special introduces viewers to the many styles of barbecue being offered in Atlanta, and the people serving it up. Which restaurants will only cook hams, and which will use pork butts for their pulled pork? Are they cooking on oak or hickory or mesquite? Will anybody give away the secret to their barbecue sauce?

Are people loyal to a barbecue place because of its history, its food, or its atmosphere? There’s nostalgia for the days of car hops and old-fashioned brick pit barbecue, and an introduction to three barbecue families who’ve been dishing up smoked meat for a combined 195 years. You’ll find out who’s serving up a side dish of music along with the ribs and meet folks so loyal to their favorite that they pass ten barbecue places on their 50-mile trip to eat the barbecue they love.

Kissed by Fire features visits to a dozen of metro Atlanta’s favorite barbeque establishments such as southwest Atlanta’s Anderson’s Old Fashion Bar-B-Que, Daddy D’z just east of downtown Atlanta, Jonesboro’s Dean’s Barbecue, Dusty’s near Emory, Harold’s Barbecue near the infamous Atlanta Federal “Pen”, Buckhead’s One Star Ranch Texas Style Barbeque, Sprayberry’s of Newnan, The Swallow at the Hollow in Roswell, and Marietta’s Williamson Bros. Bar-B-Q. And we didn’t neglect the new kids on the street like KC Pit BBQ, Pig-n-Chik, and Rolling Bones Premium Pit BBQ.

This unabashedly friendly look at barbeque and its fans here in Atlanta will have viewers craving a taste from their favorite barbeque pit or make new converts out of those who’ve never experienced it! Long-time Atlanta resident Martha Bird Knighton narrates and the program is written and produced by Conne Ward-Cameron, producer/director of the Emmy-winning baseball documentary Southern Bases.
