Four years ago this week, as Hurricane Katrina came ashore, thousands New Orleanians evacuated their city and many found their way to Atlanta. One of those Katrina transplants was our own arts contributor David Lee Simmons, who moved to Atlanta in the months followed the hurricane and flood. In the weeks to come the Atlanta Journal-Constitution will feature an article that David Lee has written about those that moved here beginning in the late summer of 2005. We spoke to him about it earlier.

It’s time to get out your telescope and look to the sky, as this is the International Year of Astronomy. Planetariums, observatories and museums the world over are honoring the occasion with special exhibits and events for the astronomy-curious…and the Fernbank Science Center is no exception. Earlier this spring, John Lemley spoke with Fernbank astronomer April Whitt about some astronomy history, tips for beginners, and what the center has to offer for stargazers.
