When Hanukkah begins at sundown on the first night of the 8-day Jewish festival, most holiday tables will feature latkes — either a treasured family recipe of the potato pancakes, or an updated, gourmet version. On City Cafe today, we’re visiting the home of Cindy Lourie, who’s quite the expert when it comes to these delicious potato pancakes.

The Morehouse College Glee Club is an all male choir and the official singing organization of Morehouse College. The history of the glee club goes back well over a century and while the group holds performances all year long, some of their most anticipated concerts happen at the end of the year in preparation for the holiday season. Starting tonight, the group will perform with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in the annual Christmas with the ASO Concerts. WABE’s David Barasoain has more.

These Atlanta musicians say they’re performing out of love and respect for ‘the album.’ Their hope is to bring musicians from across Atlanta together—even if it’s only for one night. Along with “da Bears,” “da Cubs” and deep dish pizza, Second City is a Chicago institution. And now, with their second visit to our city well underway, they are making a bid for becoming an Atlanta institution as well.

The fifty year old club specializes in improv-based sketch comedy and boasts an alum which includes Dan Aykroyd, Alan Arkin and Tina Fey. And right now on the Hertz Stage of the Alliance they are presenting Peach Drop, Stop and Roll, a show written specifically for an Atlanta audience.

WABE’s Lois Reitzes recently sat with director Matt Hovde (Huvv-dee) and actor Amy Raider to find out how they managed to make Second City work this far away from home.
