In the world of theater, if a company announces it’s mounting a production of 42nd Street, you take notice. Based on the 1933 backstage movie musical, 42nd Street spares little in the way of extravagant costumes, sets and big showstopping musical numbers.

The Atlanta Lyric Theatre is one of the latest companies to tackle the production in performances this month at Marietta’s Strand Theatre. WABE’s John Lemley sat down with the musical’s director Brandt Blocker and Jeff McKerley, who plays Julian Marsh. McKerley began by summing up the plot of the show.
