Mercy flight is a non profit volunteer organization that arranges no cost flights for those in need. Most of the flights are for patients who need to travel to distant medical facilities on a regular basis, for instance someone with cancer who needs specialist treatment every few weeks. They also fly relief supplies when needed (such as Hurricane Katrina) and transplant patients who need to be moved at a moments notice.
The Good Samaritan pilots donate their time, the use of their plane as well as the cost of the fuel. Many of Mercy Flight’s pilots have been doing this for years and the satisfaction they get from it is immense. Larry Bishop told us that “it was an honor to be able to help people in this small way.”
