The Alcove Contemporary Arts Gallery
The Alcove grew out of a co-op of like-minded artists. As many of them gradually began to move away from the Atlanta area, artist Chris Warner assumed the responsibility of curating and selling their work. This evolved into the Alcove. Now situated on the edge of Decatur and Avondale Estates, the Alcove has become a local hub for various styles of art commonly lumped under the term “lowbrow.”
The art at Alcove is often characterized by playful use of pop-culture imagery and unconventional materials. For instance, this segment follows Trish Chenard as she prepares her piece for a group show featuring different artists’ takes on the old-school metal lunchbox. We also check in with Brian Colin, who makes large-scale fantastical creatures with materials commonly used for taxidermy.
